The world returns to London - Travel Photographer of the Year at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)

News provided by Travel Photographer of the Year/Karen Coe on Thursday 12th Jun 2014

The latest winning images from the international Travel Photographer of the Year awards make their public debut in a superb, free-to-view exhibition at London’s Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), opening on Friday, July 11th and running until Sunday, August 17th.

From the exuberance of a community festival at a mud mosque in Mali to mesmerising views of ‘snow monkeys’ in Japan, and from sweeping landscapes and cityscapes to the minutiae of an ant colony and remarkable, close-up detail of lions on the hunt, the award-winning images document the magnificence, beauty and poignancy of this planet and its inhabitants, through the eyes of the amateur and professional photographers who beat entrants from almost 100 countries to take the top places in one of the world’s most prestigious photography awards.

With prints produced by Genesis Imaging, and specialist lighting from Direct Photographic, this wonderful collection of award-winning contemporary travel photography will be showcased to its very best advantage.

The exhibition will be open from 10am-5pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am-7pm Friday and Saturday. In addition, Travel Photographer of the Year has some special evening events planned, details of which will be announced nearer the time.

The gallery shop will sell postcards and greetings cards featuring some of the exhibited images, and visitors also have the opportunity to be the first to buy the new Travel Photographer of the Year book ‘Journey Six’. Featuring the winning images that are displayed in the exhibition, this beautiful new book goes on sale for the first time on July 11th.

Last year’s exhibition broke all attendance records for the Society, bringing in over 48,000 visitors in just 38 days, all keen to see world-class travel photography within an historic setting. One visitor found it so inspiring that he arranged with the TPOTY team to stage his marriage proposal there - and happily the lady in question said 'yes'!

The exhibition should provide the perfect inspiration for those considering taking part in the 2014 awards, which are open for entry until October 1st.

Entry to the Travel Photographer of the Year exhibition is free, and further information on the exhibition and the awards may be found at http://www.tpoty.com.
