Mobile Game Aims to Reduce Stress in Football Fans

This mobile game aims to reduce stress in football fans

Any dedicated football (or soccer) fan knows how stressful and soul destroying it can be when their team loses a match, but now a new mobile game, Soccer Revenge, aims to help tackle this emotional rollercoaster.

It allows a player to instantly replay any game in the world but the main difference is that by default the opposition (computer) difficulty level is set to easy. This means that a player can successfully trounce their opposition in style. What's more, you can then post this new result to Facebook or Twitter where it's displayed in the style of a breaking news story.

An experiment earlier this year by DARE for Barclays found that football fans 'experience more stress' than players. On average supporters' heart rates increased to 145.5 per cent of its resting level when their team conceded a goal. This isn't at all surprising when you consider that, according to the Mental Health Foundation; a recent study showed that one in four fans said football was one of the most important things in their lives.

Nino Rosella, creator of Soccer Revenge says that, “This game was inspired by my friends uploading photos to Facebook of their TV screens showing the results from their console games where they'd battered the opposition into submission after suffering a real-world defeat”.

“They'd often accompany these posts with comments along the lines of 'Ahh that's made me feel better', so I thought that there should be an app for that”.

The no-frills game has been designed to be as simple as possible with ease of use (and winning!) in mind.

“It's amazing how powerful you feel when your opposition is hopeless against you!” concludes Rosella.

The game, which is free to download and play, will be released Thursday 11th September 2014 on the Apple App Store for iOS and also the Google Play Store for Android.
