Know AML – Blood Cancer Awareness Month, September 2022

News provided by Scientific Education Support on Tuesday 30th Aug 2022

Know AML is the first global education and awareness initiative that provides patients and caregivers with the information, resources, and support they need to deal with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) – a rare aggressive cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

Know AML aspires to facilitate and improve AML knowledge worldwide and develop community-based initiatives to overcome current and future challenges. The mission of Know AML is to drive education and awareness of AML globally through community collaborations, while continuing to raise awareness of the resources and support currently available. This year and beyond, Know AML is focusing on broader quality of life issues, including supportive care, the relationship between mental health and AML, and the patient journey.

Each year in September, Know AML marks Blood Cancer Awareness Month and organizes a campaign to urge the AML community and the general public to get involved and to continue to raise awareness of AML. For Blood Cancer Awareness Month this year, Know AML has collated resources from trusted information sources to support patients in areas such as nutritional support, movement and exercise, complementary therapies, wellbeing and psychological support, management of side effects, and financial and employment assistance.

Know AML will then be developing an interactive resource and a downloadable PDF with links to various trusted patient resource websites. Throughout Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Know AML would like to encourage everyone to share the resources – be that through email, website, newsletter, blogging, or on social media using the hashtags #KnowAML and #BloodCancerAwarenessMonth. An editable version of the downloadable PDF will also be available to allow for translations. For more details, please read the briefing guide found here.

If you have any questions or would like more information on the campaign, please do not hesitate to get in touch via our social channels or email.

Further information:

Know AML has a dedicated and highly experienced global ambassador group who meet regularly to steer and guide the initiative. This ambassador group consists of patients and caregivers, patient advocates, healthcare professionals, and industry representatives. Their responsibility is to propose awareness initiatives, provide concepts for support and education resources, share their experiences and learnings from advocacy heritage, and endorse materials before circulation among the AML community.

Know AML is brought to you by Scientific Education Support (SES) in partnership with CancerCare.
