Go Balance: Stingless Bee Programme

In 2022 Go Balance introduced a programme focused on breeding and managing stingless bees in the Trocano Araretama Project area.

Through a series of training courses, community members were taught beekeeping techniques, including how to construct and maintain breeding boxes for the bees.

What benefits does the programme offer?

The implementation of this programme brings a wide range of benefits to the local community and the environment.

Stingless bee breeding, also known as meliponiculture, improves pollination and crop development, specifically for the Cupuassu Tree, a commonly grown fruit tree in the Amazon region. Additionally, it helps to increase production and maintain biodiversity in the area.

The benefits of stingless bee breeding include:

  • Better development of crops, more pollination and larger crop yields
  • The Cupuassu tree relies on stingless bees to pollinate it - and this tree’s fruit is incredibly popular in the Amazon region
  • The biodiversity of the region can be increased by increasing the numbers of stingless bees
