London, June 2018
Bradley’s Spanish Bar, a long time fixture of London’s vibrant West End nightlife, will be in Hanway
Street well into the next decade as they celebrate signing a new lease.
The owners, Absolutely Barking, have been in negotiations for the past year, assisted by Howard Day of
Davis Coffer Lyons, and have agreed terms with landlords Derwent London.
"With much of old London disappearing this is a great deal for both the bar and the area. Thanks go
especially to the people at Derwent London for understanding the benefit of a small independent in
making the area special," said Lucien Oppler, Director.
To mark the occasion award-winning photographer Brian David-Stevens was commissioned to produce a
series of photos/portraits that capture the special allure of Bradley’s.
“It's a lot of responsibility! Bradley's is a London institution, it's like photographing the Queen or
something. Everyone I know seems to have a Bradley's story, it's a place that means so much to people,
you have to do it justice."
In the rush to develop the area around the east end of Oxford Street there have been many casualties
with Tin Pan Alley, The Astoria and most of the small independent music and retail shops in the area
now fading memories. The good news that iconic Hanway Street watering hole has just signed a new ten
year lease has understandably been widely welcomed and came on the same day Bradley’s won another
set of awards.
“We must be doing something right. I came to London to visit a friend I didn’t expect to end up running
the best little pub in London, it’s why I’m here,” says Jan de Vries, the Manager at Bradleys.
