Nice, May 18- The Wife’s Letter (Streer Potro), a Bengali film by Aneek Chaudhuri has come out in flying colors after gaining a handful of international recognitions such as Hamilton Film Fest, British Council, a presentation at EFM-Berlinale and this time it’s Cannes. On May 17, the film was screened at Gray 5 of Marche du film, Festival de Cannes at 20:00 hours local time.

Being the opening day of Festival de Cannes, where the focus was on glitz and glamour, a young filmmaker was excited for the screening of his film at one of the most prestigious corners of the world of Cinema. The director has also been featured in English magazine, India and you, and a french magazine, Indes which are widely available at Cannes.

The Wife’s Letter speaks of a hallucinated person who is trying (constantly) to match emotions with mathematics, or in other words, in this film, been named ‘X’, he is trying to find the constant to his value. Starring Kaushik Roy, the film is an attempt to amalgamate the artform of Salvador Dali and the simplicity of Rabindranath Tagore; Aneek quotes, “the film is targeted to the critics or anyone who actively belong to this field; the basic reason for choosing this target group is I truly consider the fact that the film is not identifiable to many of the common people’s uses and gratifications.”

Music plays an important part in The Wife’s Letter; orchestrated by Saikat Chattopadhyay, the music actually takes the film forward with a slight variation of Rabindra Sangeet. Aneek Chaudhuri himself produced the film along with Marie Adler and this is Indo-American production has taken independent filmmaking in India to a new level.

The festival season seems to have brought creative offsprings for the film and its director, and has not yet ended. However, it is worth mentioning that the film has got more support from abroad, be it the process of sales and distribution or, festival premieres than its country of origin.
