St Albans care scheme is 'a tonic for residents'

News provided by North Hertfordshire Homes on Monday 17th Oct 2016

A housing association care scheme praised for its non-institutional feel has won the St Albans Civic Society Award.

Park Side View to the north of St Albans in Marshalswick was designed to maximise views of the surrounding countryside for its residents.

The flexicare scheme run by North Hertfordshire Homes provides housing with on-site care if needed, for around 36 occupants and was described by the judges as “the new face of sheltered housing”.

The judges said the scheme was “A true delight, clearly a tonic for the residents”.

Shaun Holdcroft, Executive Director at North Hertfordshire Homes said: “We’re delighted with the award from St Albans Civic Society. With so much national concern about care and support provision, we welcome the opportunity to promote an alternative approach that combines housing with care and encourages independence for as long as possible.”
