Celebrity Grimsby duo Lloyd Griffith and Tommy Turgoose will line-up against each other this August for a charity football game that will benefit two worthwhile causes.

Lloyd and Tommy head to the Linden Homes Club in Cleethorpes, home of Cleethorpes Town on Sunday 5 August for the match and they will be joined by a host of celebrity friends, as well as ex-Grimsby Town professionals.

The match will raise funds for St Andrew’s Hospice in Grimsby and also Once Upon A Smile, a charity that provides support for bereaved families.

Lloyd will captain the St Andrew’s Hospice All Star XI, with Tommy leading out the Once Upon A Smile Select XI.

An ambassador at the hospice since the turn of the year, Lloyd is looking forward to returning his hometown to help support one of the region’s most well-known charities.

He said: “Me and Tomo are delighted that we can make this game happen.

“We've both been playing in charity games for Once Upon A Smile for a number of years now and so it was a no brainer to sort a game between them and St Andrew’s Hospice.

“I've got some cracking players lined up to play against the already existing celebrity team and I know we'll be up against it.

“It'll be a great day bringing the community together, raising lots of money for two cracking charities, there'll be lots of great faces and we can almost guarantee that Jake Quickenden will have his top off for the majority of the day!

“Me and Tomo can't wait to go head to head!”

Tickets for the match are on sale now and cost £6 for adults, £2 for children, with a special family ticket (two adults and two children), priced at £12, and are available from the hospice, the Linden Club or online at https://standre.ws/thebigmatch.

The match kicks off at 1pm, with gates opening at 11am, and there will also be a host of family-friendly activities and fundraising events.

For local businesses looking to get involved, there are a number of sponsorship opportunities for the day. Please call 01472 571 264 for more details.
