A local comedian, TV presenter and singer is to become a new ambassador for St Andrew’s Hospice in Grimsby.

Lloyd Griffith, who hosts Sky Sports’ hugely popular Soccer AM programme will be assuming the role in 2018.

He was born and raised in the town, attending St James’ School and has been a successful chorister, comedian and, most recently a TV presenter.

Lloyd featured on Songs of Praise, before taking up a career in comedy, which has resulted in touring slots with Jack Whitehall and Rob Beckett.

His TV career began with the BBC Three show ‘Taxi to Training’, which featured top Premier League stars, such as Troy Deeney and Dele Alli.

Following that, Lloyd was announced as the new co-host of Soccer AM for the 2017/18 season.

He joins Joanne Clifton, Julie Peasgood and George Kavanagh as an ambassador of St Andrew’s Hospice.

The hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care for anybody of any age in North East Lincolnshire, and cares for children and young people aged 0-25 in the East Riding, Hull and wider Lincolnshire.

“It's an honour to be asked to be an Ambassador for St Andrew’s Hospice,” said Lloyd.

“The hospice is vitality important to the area and a huge help to so many people, including some of my friends and family who have used their services, so to be able to help in whatever way possible is a privilege.

“Some of my family have even worked at the hospice (including my Auntie Irene who is one of the receptionists), so I know the work that is carried out there is nothing short of amazing.

“I'm truly looking forward to helping the team raise as much money as possible and if that means me making more of a fool of myself (if that's possible), then so be it!”

Theresa Crowe is a Charity Fundraising and Events Co-ordinator at St Andrew’s Hospice and she is delighted to have Lloyd on board.

She said: “Here at St Andrew’s Hospice we are always trying to raise awareness of who we are and what we do.

“Lloyd is passionate about the local area and has really put North East Lincolnshire on the map with his successful comedy and TV career.

“He is very keen to support us and has some exciting ideas for the future – we’re delighted to have Lloyd on board.”
