Poppie's New Plaice opens in Camden Market - Just in time for Seafood Week 9-16 October

Poppie's Fish & Chips is very excited to be expanding into Camden Market. Poppie's new Camden Market kiosk will offer the best fresh, flaky and delicious cod or haddock (from £6.50) in their edible-inked newspaper, and offer battered or classic sausages, fishcakes, saveloy, jellied eels, bottled wine and beer, and of course hearty portions of their famed and perfectly crisped chips (from £2).

Poppie's is synonymous with its owner, 72-year-old Pat 'Pop' Newland, the shop's namesake. Pop started in the fish and chips business in the 1950s when he was just a minnow, at 11 years old, cutting newspaper to wrap the portions as they were dished out on the Roman Road.

Pop said of the opening 'It's really exciting that we've opened our new kiosk in Camden Market, as a young lad in the 50s and 60s, I used to spend a lot of time in Camden, so I'm really proud that we can be a part of the foodie fabric and the regeneration of the Market and Lock. I hope to see you soon for some fish and chips.'

Poppie's winning formula is a combination of Pop, his familial way of running his shops, the team and the food's provenance. With fish sourced at Billingsgate Market from Joe Bush, the third generation fishmonger T.Bush, old friends of Pop's, and is then filleted and prepared on site by Poppie's Fishmonger Sulih. Their incredible chips, sourced from Masters Potatoes at Billingsgate are lovingly peeled and cut up daily, and are some of the best around.

Editor's Notes

Recognised as one of the best independent fish and chip restaurants in the UK, Poppie's Fish and Chips of Spitalfields opened across from the world-famous Spitalfields Market in 2011, before it expanded to its sister location of Hawley Crescent, Camden in May 2013.

Begun as a labour of love for master fryer Pat 'Pop' Newland, Poppie's combines traditional East End fish and chips with retro decor and a fun, relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of London's postwar rebirth.

Poppie's is as an extension of Pop's personality, with decidedly British décor and a breathtaking collection of British memorabilia collected by throughout the years. The shops have a deeply nostalgic 1950s theme, with items picked up by Pop over the decades, or even brought in by customers to join the wall of fame.
