London, 1st March 2019

Award winning Managed IT Services Provider Netstar, were joined by partner Duo Security and thirty clients from the financial services sector at the Gherkin in central London last week, to explore the latest strategies to detect and prevent cyber-attacks.

Mit Patel, Netstar MD comments, “Cyber Security is a serious concern for companies; particularly those who deal with highly sensitive information, such as financial services organisations. Financial and reputational losses associated with data breaches are high and SMEs are often the most vulnerable to these risks. Smaller businesses might not expect to be targeted and aren't always prepared to effectively mitigate the risk of cyber-attack. In this lunch and learn we introduced the Zero-Trust security model and other innovations happening within cyber security right now.”

Use technology to protect your network

Joshua Green, Enterprise Solutions Engineer at Duo Security, a Cisco owned cloud-based access protection company, led the way with a lively talk on Zero-Trust and how businesses should adopt verified access methods to protect important business data. Shifts in modern day working behaviours such as BYOD (bring your own device) policies, remote working and multiple devices per user have all added to the increasingly difficult task of protecting an organisation. Joshua explained how by limiting access and privilege and essentially not trusting anyone or anything, both the user and the device have to undergo verification, thus preventing cyber-attacks.

Light is shed on the dark web

Malcolm Diack, Senior Strategist at Netstar identified the latest innovations and best practices people should adopt to future proof their businesses, referencing well-known data breach cases to illustrate the threat. He then demonstrated Netstar’s dark web monitoring service in action. Malcolm comments, “we handed out envelopes to our guests showing them if their credentials had been stolen without them knowing and were available for sale on the dark web. Data theft is an increasing problem and our dark web monitoring services enable businesses to proactively protect themselves from possible breaches.

Rory Sheward, Operations Manager at Argonaut Capital commented “It was really useful for us to hear about Zero-Trust and other data protection methods. Businesses need to secure their future by taking steps to protect themselves against cyber threats. Developing the right IT strategies and integrating them into the way you run your business is crucial here.”

Mit Patel, MD of Netstar adds, “At Netstar we are committed to helping people succeed through technology. Our partnership with Duo Security enabled us to deliver an engaging event designed to guide businesses on their cyber security strategies. We will be hosting more educational events in 2019! Watch this space.”
