Looking for a reason to be cheerful in a difficult year? The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) is giving three lucky people the chance to win in its annual prize draw, with the winner taking home a pair of made-to-measure Sovereign shotguns worth more than £13,000.

The guns, supplied by William Powell, are ready to use with steel or lead cartridges and the winner can choose either side-by-sides or over-and-unders to suit their preference. Even if you miss out the big prize, you could still be lucky, with a William Powell Braemore tweed Shooting Suit worth over £1100 up for grabs, along with single leather gun slip and 100 cartridge leather cartridge bag worth over £400. The suit is all you could wish for, including a shooting coat, sports jacket, breeks, shooting vest and cap, while the third prize of gun slip and cartridge bag comes embossed with up to three initials of your choice.

Tickets are priced at £100 each and are available to purchase from www.gwct.org.uk/draw. They are on sale until midnight on 14 December and draw will take place on 18 December 2020.

“The GWCT Gun Draw 2020 is a chance to win some of the best prizes in fieldsports,” said James Swyer, Press and Publications Manager at the Trust, “And by taking part you will be supporting the GWCT’s scientific research programmes for game and wildlife conservation, helping to ensure a thriving countryside rich in game and wildlife.

“By participating in the Gun Draw 2020, you are funding new research to measure and publish the influence effective game management has on our countryside.”

2020 has been a challenging year for the GWCT, with restrictions on events and membership recruitment forecast to impact income by as much as £1.5 million and proceeds from the draw are more important than ever.

Last year the Gun Draw was won by long-term supporter of the GWCT’s work, Peregrine Moncreiffe. A delighted Mr Moncrieffe commented: “The contribution of GWCT to the conservation of rare habitats and vulnerable species represents a cause dear to my heart. My success in this lottery, like my shooting, is down more to luck than skill. I am fortunate and delighted to win this outstanding and timely prize so kindly donated by William Powell”

GWCT would like to thank William Powell for its generosity in donating the prizes for the fifth successive year. Mark Osborne, owner of William Powell, said: "The conservation work carried out by the GWCT is vital for a healthy and thriving game and wildlife population, and we are immensely proud to support their research programmes.

“The GWCT Gun Draw is an opportunity to raise money and win a pair of our new Sovereigns. These are the next generation of shotguns, able to shoot lead or steel shot, and buying a ticket for this draw, both supports a vitally important conservation body and gives you a chance to win a quite exceptional prize."
