This Shrove Tuesday, The Sick Children's Trust is calling on the greatest of athletes to join in the legendary Pancake Race at The Lamb Tavern, Leadenhall Market, as it shakes its buckets to raise vital funds for the families of sick children.

The famous annual Leadenhall Market Pancake Race sees teams of city workers compete to be crowned Champion Pancake Flippers by The Lamb Tavern. This year, The Lamb Tavern is supporting The Sick Children's Trust, a charity that provides free 'Home from Home' accommodation for families with critically ill children, so they can stay together while their child undergoes specialist treatment in hospital.

The charity, which has its Head Office in Leadenhall Street, runs three 'Homes from Home' in London; Rainbow and Guilford Street Houses that support families with sick children at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Stevenson House which supports families at The Royal London Hospital. Each 'Home from Home' gives families a private room, as well as access to a kitchen and dining room, living room, playroom and laundry facilities. Joy Darling, Head of Operations – South, says:

“It's wonderful that The Lamb Tavern and Leadenhall Market are supporting a local charity at their Pancake Race– and especially at an event that city workers look forward to every year. We're excited to meet the teams and see their pancake flipping skills, and in turn to make more people aware of the vital support we provide to families with children being treated at London's leading children's hospitals.

“As a charity which relies entirely on donations, the support of companies like The Lamb Tavern really does make a significant difference in raising the funds we need to keep our ten 'Homes from Home' running. It costs the charity on £28 per night to support a family and last year we helped around 3,600 – so the more support we receive, the more families we can help.”

The Leadenhall Market Pancake Race will take place on Tuesday 9 February from 12 noon – 2pm where teams can compete to see who can successfully flip pancakes up and down Leadenhall Market. Tony Wickers, Assistant Manager at The Lamb Tavern says:

“This year's Pancake Race is going to be great! We're expecting lots of teams to compete for a second or third time and are hoping to see some new faces come down. We're very pleased to be working with a local charity this year – hopefully we can help them build a good support network around Leadenhall so that they can continue to help more families with sick children.”
