PETA's Fur Amnesty Night Offers Fashionistas Opportunity to Clean Out Their Closet Before London Fashion Week

London – As Mahiki celebrates the first anniversary of their fur-free policy, the celebrity hotspot is teaming up with PETA to host a fur amnesty night: anyone ready to unload an unwanted fur garment can trade it in at the door for free entry into the night club and a complimentary cocktail. All fur collected will be put to good use as warm bedding for orphaned animals at shelters. The invitation can be seen here.

When: Tuesday, 17 February, starting at 7 pm

Where: Mahiki, 1 Dover St, London W1S 4LD

"PETA and Mahiki are inviting fur-wearers to turn their backs on those vile furs in favour of a fun-filled night out", says PETA Director Mimi Bekhechi. "This is an opportunity for partygoers to clean out their closets – and clear their consciences, knowing that the furs will provide animals with much-needed warmth and comfort this winter."

As documented by PETA, whose motto reads, in part, that "animals are not ours to wear", animals on fur farms are confined to cramped, filthy cages before they are drowned, beaten, strangled, electrocuted and often even skinned alive in order to produce fur coats, collars and cuffs. You can see for yourself in this video, narrated by Paloma Faith, what life is like for animals on fur farms here in Europe and around the globe – even in countries that claim to have high welfare standards.
