FTA HELPING TOWER TRANSIT TO SET THE STANDARDS

News provided by Pressat Wire on Wednesday 10th Sep 2014

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has been working closely with Tower Transit Operations Ltd to assist with compliance and to help ensure it is operating to the highest standards.

Tower Transit turned to FTA in 2013 to help maintain best practice throughout its engineering policies and procedures in the three sites it operates within the Transport for London (TfL) area.

Lee Scarlett, FTA’s Head of Contracts said:

“Tower Transit has implemented new procedures and practices within its engineering department which demonstrate best practice and investment in quality. FTA has worked closely with the organisation’s Engineering Director, Alan Coney, who has access to a bespoke technical training package which includes all engineering policies and procedures. In addition, this connects with the irtec Technician Licence registration scheme that Tower Transit have been actively involved in.”

The compliance message has also meant that all three of the organisation’s workshops have been through the IRTE Workshop Accreditation Scheme in June 2014. FTA and IRTE are working together to deliver IRTE Workshop Accreditation, an independent accreditation scheme designed to measure the procedures of independent and operators’ workshops against those set by major industry stakeholders.

Mr Scarlett added:

“It is a pleasure to assist Alan and his engineering team at Tower Transit throughout the IRTE Workshop Accreditation Scheme, and we look forward to continuing to support the team in their drive for excellence.”

Other services the operator has utilised include FTA Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) external quality monitoring, which provides regular inspections across all of their three sites and includes maintenance systems procedures auditing.

The IRTE Workshop Accreditation scheme allows independent workshops to demonstrate their high operating standards, health and safety awareness and regulatory compliance to operators and manufacturers, gaining a competitive advantage within the industry. Tower Transit’s Atlas Road, Westbourne Park & Lea Interchange depots all achieved IRTE Workshop Accreditation plus.
