Egginton Primary School Turn It Purple in memory of loved ones lost to pancreatic cancer

Tina Woolliscroft along with her 3 children are taking part in Pancreatic Cancer Action’s Turn It Purple Campaign in memory of lost loved ones. The event will take place at Egginton Primary School on the 25^th November where they will be selling purple cupcakes, raffle tickets and goodie bags.

Tina has been motivated to hold a Turn It Purple event after losing a very close family friend to pancreatic cancer in 2015 after a 3-year battle with the disease. Two of Tina’s best friends, Ellie and Karen, have also lost close members of the family to the disease. Ellie lost her mum in 2007 and her uncle earlier this year and Karen her father in 2013.

The main Turn It Purple event will take place on Friday 25^th November at Egginton Primary school where Tina’s Children - Charlotte, Elizabeth and Will are selling purple cupcakes, raffle tickets and purple goodie bags full of awareness leaflets and a purple Pansy which they can plant at home. All they are asking is that people wear something purple whether it is a hair clip or a full purple outfit and help support the cause and raise awareness.

Other events throughout the month include a stall at the Egginton Christmas fair on the 26^th where Ellie, the local sewist, will be selling her beautifully sewn home furnishings and gifts with 50% of all profits being donated to Pancreatic Cancer Action. There will also be a fundraiser held after the school’s celebration assembly on the 20^th December and a paint your own Christmas decoration event has already taken place.

Tina Woolliscroft said: “We are holding these events to raise as much awareness as possible and hopefully save a life. It was Charlotte’s idea initially and we are eager to get every generation involved because if the children take a leaflet home and show their parents then it could make a huge difference to someone’s life.”

Currently only 5% of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive beyond five years. Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed to working towards earlier diagnosis of the disease so that surgery, currently the only cure, is made available to the sufferer.
