Have fun learning how to keep safe on buses

With Disability Hate Crime on the rise in Lambeth, it is more important than ever to know how to keep safe when using buses.

We are inviting Disabled People to come along to the Big Bus Day to find out about keeping safe when travelling on the buses. There will be interactive role plays and discussions to improve knowledge on how to keep safe and who is around to help if something happens. The session takes place on a moving bus that follows an organised route around Streatham.

Disability Advice Service Lambeth (DASL) are working with Transport for London, Lambeth Council and Met. Police, as part of the Lambeth Disability Hate Crime Partnership’s work to prevent Hate Crime against Disabled People.

The Big Bus Day is taking place on Tuesday 10 July from 11.30am to 2pm. Meeting point is at 336 Brixton Road SW9 7AA. We will all travel together to join the bus in Streatham and then travel back together, for those that want to. Due to the timings, it would be a good idea to bring something to drink and some food to have during the session.

This is a great way to learn how to keep safe on buses and meet the people that are involved in keeping us all safe. Disabled People are often targeted on public transport, with name calling or worse. The Big Bus Day is designed to be inclusive and fun.

Louise Holden, DASL’s Community Development Worker says, “Making sure Disabled People feel confident to go about their daily life and not be subjected to name calling, harassment or worse is one of the main driving factors for the work of the Lambeth Disability Hate Crime Partnership.”
