Vauxhall Motors has donated a Vivaro van to City College, Coventry for students taking a motor-related course to work on. The college has linked up with Vauxhall to support their education and this vehicle will be a great addition to the current learning tools.
“The donation of a new van from Vauxhall really does 'support education' in Coventry,” said Jacki Lord, Deputy Principal, City College. “Our courses prepare students for life in the real world and Vauxhall is helping ensure that training is taking place on the latest vehicles. This sort of up-to-date experience is something that future employers really value. We’re looking forward to expanding our relationship with Vauxhall in training the motor mechanics of the future.”
“The college is relatively new as it opened in 2002 after two colleges merged and their success has been because they have good links with business,” said Cherie Denton, Vauxhall’s Community Coordinator. “For students to progress after education they need to make sure that they are studying what employers want and City College, Coventry have this just right.”
The new partnership between City College, Coventry and Vauxhall was facilitated by Dawn Hall, Business Connector for Coventry.
Dawn, who is on a year-long secondment to the charity Business in the Community (BITC), said: “I was delighted to be able to connect City College with Vauxhall Motors and to help those studying vehicle mechanics at the College. City College is one of six colleges across six counties to benefit from Vauxhall’s generous donation of vehicles in recent months”
BITC stands for responsible business. The Business Connector programme is a network of Connectors that are supported and trained by Business in the Community. Business connectors create partnerships matching the skills and resources of business to local needs.’
