Bristol Green Capital launches £15,000 green IT competition

News provided by ATMEDIA LTD on Thursday 6th Sep 2012

Bristol Green Capital Partnership is calling on all budding techies to submit their green IT ideas to the Green Learning Cloud competition and be in with a chance to win up to £15,000 developing their project.

The ideas need to link to social media and they need to be clear about the outcomes they are hoping to achieve, eg. reducing car journeys or calculating carbon emissions. Or they might invite others to get involved and share their good ideas.

Darren Hall, Bristol Green Capital Manager, says: “We want to set up a Green Learning Cloud linked to our website - a virtual online space where people can be inspired to take action on climate change, carbon reduction, energy efficiency and many other issues.

“Bristol has a wealth of talented and creative people bursting with great ideas and we’re hoping that with a pot of £15,000, it will give us the opportunity to gather some of the best web and mobile platform ideas and bring them to life.”

Cllr Guy Poultney, Cabinet Member for Communities said: "This competition combines the strengths of Bristol's green and technology sectors, two areas where we are leading the way on the international stage. But to stay ahead we must keep investing in the ideas and people that will shape our city in the future. I hope the Green Learning Cloud competition will therefore attract some high calibre entries."

The final decision will be taken by a panel, including a web specialist, a marketing expert and representatives of the Green Capital Steering Group.

Ideas should be submitted on the Green Capital website, www.bristolgreencapital.org, where they can be viewed and rated by the public. The more popular the idea, the greater consideration they will be given by the panel. The current favourite on the website is an idea for a 'Week in the Life of Green Bristol' film that will be comprised entirely of footage sent in or inspired by people, showing how they tackle green issues and approach sustainable living.

The closing date for the competition is September 30th. To find out more about the competition and look at some of the ideas already submitted, visit the ‘About the Dialogue’ page - http://bristolgreencapital.dialogue-app.com.
