Bike mechanic to cycle the monstrous Stelvio pass for a charity which exports prosthetic legs to Africa

News provided by Legs4Africa on Tuesday 26th May 2015

The Stelvio Pass in Italy rises over 1,600 metres over a 22 kilometre stretch of the Alps making it one of the most challenging cycling courses around. Professional an amateurs alike have attempted the feat and only a few have succeeded.

Richard Braidwood, 31 from Manchester, discovered his love for biking after moving to the city in 2010. A convenient and cost effective form of transport soon turned into a passion as he would go cycling at weekends through the Cheshire Planes. Unsatisfied with flat lands Richard soon turned his sights to the peaks and realised his passion for up hill struggles with the inevitable exhilaration of the white buckled ride back down the other side.

So now he is headed out to Italy to attempt to conker the legendary Stelvio Pass for Legs4Africa, a charity which exports used prosthetic limbs to places such as the Gambia to get amputees back on their feet.

"It is an admirable undertaking and we are very proud that Richard has chosen Legs4Africa to support for this challenge." Tom Williams, founder of Legs4Africa.

Richard said:

"I feel the charity is benefiting both continents by saving on the cost of destruction in the E.U. and also making life changing donations to people who really need it in Africa. A win win for all."
