Award-winning energy efficiency makeover

News provided by One Vision Housing on Monday 23rd Nov 2015

The recently completed makeover of Hornby Flats in Litherland, has been recognised nationally, after winning the 'Sustainable Project of the Year' category at the 2015 Builder and Engineer Awards.

The project, which cost £2.4million in total, included the external insulation of all 96 flats, helping to reduce carbon emissions, while making the homes warmer and more affordable to heat.

Each flat also received new triple glazed windows; and energy efficient LED lighting was installed throughout the communal areas and exterior of the building.

At the award ceremony, which took place at Lancashire County Cricket Club on Thursday 19th November, judge Stephen Hodder, commended the project. He said: “The Sustainable Project category was extremely interesting. We gave the award to the Hornby Flats project by One Vision Housing. Key to their win was the reuse of existing buildings. The project ticks all the boxes with its approach to sustainability, in terms of social, economic and environmental.”

One Vision Housing's Operations Director for Asset Management, Arturo Gulla, said: “We are extremely proud of this project. We managed to find an external wall insulation solution that will improve energy efficiency, while also maintaining the building's contemporary classical architecture.

“Fuel poverty is a growing concern for our customers, so we are always looking for new ways to help them. We expect that the residents of Hornby will see a significant reduction in their energy bills, while also enjoying their new-look homes.”

Working in partnership with Seddon Construction, Cost Consultants WYG, Trowers and Hamlins, Architectural practice Halsall Lloyd Partnership (HLP) Rockwool, and REECH, One Vision Housing was able to turn the project around within a short timescale and to the highest possible standard.

The project received £1million of funding from REECH, (Renewables and Energy Efficiency in Community Housing) a European Regional Development Fund financed project, managed by Sefton Council, aimed at improving energy efficiency in some of the Liverpool City Region's most deprived communities.
