Manchester based Aucoda have today released Version 3.0 of au, a new programming language for commercial use invented by their CTO Dr Raj Curwen.
Dr Curwen describes au as "a response to the current state of software development. Developing software has become increasingly difficult with developers having to learn many languages to deliver apps, websites and back end services. au allows developers to code in one language but still target all layers of their application. au does this by writing the code for you in the target language. It is a Code Once, Target Everywhere methodology that is designed to help developers build faster, be cross platform, and to target all tiers of an application simultaneously."
au allows developers to create code for any target platform. Au automatically writes code for applications to be run on Web, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Windows, and Mac simultaneously. Au is cross platform and fast to implement. It is a declarative language with a compact syntax which means small au programs turn into applications with 1000's of lines of code.
Aucoda release the au programming language after a stage of private beta – where it was used live at a number of UK blue-chip companies. au allows developers to create cross platform applications to reach any target environment. This means that developers can create high quality code in any other languages required to reach particular platforms.
As au is model based and flexible it can be used in a number of ways;
- To build front ends for the Web, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Windows, and Mac
- To connect to back end systems – including legacy
- To build service API's in SOAP and REST
- To build database systems in MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and MongoDB
Aucoda are also offering custom software built and deployed using au. A 'try before you buy' model enables customers to outline a simple proof of concept, which will lead to a live application being produced within 3 weeks. Once accepted, for a small fee, the application can be used live for a six month period.
CEO Stuart Melhuish said "We know that by using au we create high quality custom designed software in a fast and affordable way – this is why we're willing to develop at our own risk."
