Distinguished water resource management expert Professor Miklas Scholz to speak at AIEC 2016

4th edition of Ajman International Environment Conference is themed: “Smart Cities and Green Innovation”

As one the most influential speakers in water resource management and planning, Ajman's 4th International Environment Conference (AIEC), to be held from March 2nd to 3rd at the Sheikh Zayed Center for Conferences and Exhibitions, Ajman University of Science and Technology, is honoured to be welcoming Professor Miklas Scholz as a keynote speaker.

Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, AIEC 2016 has become an internationally recognised platform for raising awareness about how communities and businesses can implement innovative green practices, towards the realisation of a sustainable future.

Professor Scholz is the Chair of Civil Engineering at the University of Salford, UK, with his core research interests including: Integrated Constructed Wetlands, Sustainable Flood Retention Basins, Sustainable Drainage Systems, and other sustainable environmental management measures. Forty-six and forty-five per cent of his research has been dedicated to water resources management and wastewater treatment, respectively.

Recent research undertaken by Scholz and his team has been summarised in a book entitled 'Wetland Systems – Storm Water Management Control', published in 2010. His research has influenced national and international guidelines on wetland and sustainable drainage systems—its most notable impact now being seen in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Throughout his academic career, Scholz has shown individual and scholarly excellence as evidenced in world-leading publications, postgraduate supervision and research papers. Scholz is also a Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) Council. First elected in 2008, he was subsequently re-elected in 2012. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the ISI's Web of Science journal, 'Water'.

Organisers of AIEC 2016 have stated that Scholz's environment-friendly solutions to water resource management issues will be a significant and welcome contribution to the conference agenda.

One of the key aims of AIEC 2016 is to shift the narrative on sustainability practices so that they are viewed as a value-adding framework, in both technology and commercial spheres. To this end, scientists, experts and decision makers have been invited to speak on topics pertaining to some of the latest innovations currently being explored. Particular focus on customising green practices to the environments of Ajman, the UAE, and the wider Middle East region, will be one of the main topics on the conference agenda.
