£2m upgrade to water supplies in Northumberland

News provided by Pressat Wire on Wednesday 15th Apr 2015

Northumbrian Water is investing £2 million to improve the water supply network near Haltwhistle, Northumberland from next month.

The North East water company will install 11,400 metres of new water mains between Bellister Bank and Coanwood, and Lambley and Slaggyford reservoir to help maintain and improve drinking water quality for customers.

The scheme, which also involves the construction of a water pumping station near Bellister Bank, will begin on Tuesday May 5, 2015 and is expected to be complete by Friday January 29, 2016.

Residents in the area have been invited to attend a customer information session on Wednesday April 29, 2015 at Featherstone Castle, Haltwhistle, Northumberland, NE49 0JG between 4.00pm and 8.00pm.

Experts from Northumbrian Water and their contractor, Amey, will be on hand to answer any queries about the scheme.

Ian Surley, Northumbrian Water's project manager, said: "We are committed to providing safe, clean drinking water for all our customers, and this work is essential to help enhance drinking water quality for the future.

"There won't be any impact on the water service we provide to customers during the work and the majority of the water mains renewal will follow the route of the Pennine Cycleway, which will remain open with minimal disruption.

"We are working closely with Northumberland County Council to reduce the impact of the work and I would like to encourage residents to come along to our customer information session to find out more."

Construction traffic will need access to all working areas and site compounds which will be located at the South Tyne Trail car park at Featherstone Rowfoot, Birchtrees Water Treatment Works, Lambley Corner and the fields alongside Bellister Bank at Broomhouse Farm and Slaggyford Service reservoir.
