Research released today as part of Samsung's Techonomic Index revealed that as a nation, Britain is amongst the thriftiest in Europe when it comes to spending money on tech devices. Having spent just £218 over the past three months on devices, the UK spent £73 less per household than the European average of £291, with full rankings showing Italy as the biggest tech spenders

Commenting on the findings, Russell Taylor, Vice President Corporate Marketing, Samsung UK, said: “Samsung is a brand with a passion for innovation and we focus on developing technologies that make people's lives easier. We are investing heavily in research to look beyond product behaviour and discover people's future needs, including ways of enhancing how our numerous devices interact to improve people's lives".

'App'solute technology fans

When it comes to what we use our technology for, mobile apps are the most popular service. Two thirds (66%) of British adults stated they have used their mobile to access apps, with the most popular apps being gaming and entertainment which are used by 56% of British adults.

In addition, the popularity of streaming and download TV services such as Netflix is continuing to rise with 60% of British adults having used streaming TV and film services with 62% stating they use these services at least once a week.

The High Tech Home

Whilst the amount and time we spend on technology is lower than some of our European neighbours, it's clear that as a nation we do love and use our technology with Britons owning an average of 19 tech devices per home (against a European average of 18).

TVs and mobiles are the most commonly owned devices with over a third of British adults stating their household has two of each product within their home. A further one in ten households state they have four mobiles is their household and one in ten households have more than four TVs.

Tablet ownership is also on the increase with 38% of British households now having one tablet device. Tablets also seem to be seen as a 'treat' purchase with more than one in five (22%) admitting that their reason for buying a tablet was as a treat to themselves.

Brits are using the 6 hours and 54 minutes per day on technology as follows:

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, today announced the global availability of KNOX 2.0, the company's end-to-end secure mobile platform designed to provide advanced data and privacy protection for enterprise users. It provides better support for IT departments looking for reassurance and convenience as they implement and manage their Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) strategies.

The Samsung KNOX platform is no longer one product but represents a portfolio of multiple products and services designed to better meet the rapidly evolving enterprise mobility needs of customers. As a result, the original product launched in 2013 as Samsung KNOX - the core security platform and app container - has now been renamed KNOX Workspace. Announced at MWC 2014, KNOX 2.0 includes KNOX Workspace, EMM, Marketplace and Customisation. KNOX Workspace is currently available on the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S5, which can be activated by IT managers for later use. KNOX 2.0 will be available on other Samsung Galaxy devices through OS upgrades in the coming months. The MDM previously used with KNOX 1.0 is also fully compatible with KNOX 2.0. The workspace users of KNOX 1.0 will be automatically migrated to that of KNOX 2.0 with the OS upgrade.

Cutting-edge Core Platform Security

As it evolves to be the most secure Android platform, KNOX Workspace offers a series of core security enhancements to better protect device integrity from kernel to apps. These upgraded features include TrustZone-Protected Certificate Management, KNOX Key Store, Real-Time Protection for System Integrity, TrustZone-Protected ODE, Two-factor Biometric Authentication and the Enhanced Generic Framework of KNOX.

Improved User Experience

In addition to the core features of KNOX 2.0, brought by KNOX Workspace, users will also enjoy access to two new cloud based services, KNOX EMM and KNOX Marketplace, and a customisation service, KNOX Customisation. These broaden the KNOX 2.0 customer base by catering specifically to SMBs.

Samsung Electronics and Amazon today announced a partnership to launch Kindle for Samsung, a custom-built eBook service. The app will debut in April starting with the Galaxy S5 along with existing Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets that have Android 4.0 or above. As part of the service, Amazon and Samsung will launch Samsung Book Deals, available to everyone using Kindle for Samsung.

Samsung Book Deals will provide up to 12 free eBooks a year to all referred Galaxy device customers who use the service. People can choose a free book from a selection of four different titles every month. Each book is chosen specifically for Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners from a wide selection of prominent titles.

“We’re delighted to be able to deepen our long-standing relationship with Amazon and offer Kindle for Samsung as the perfect app for reading on a smart device.
