gain - Guillain-Barre & Associated Inflammatory Neuropathies is one of the first Charitable Incorporated Organisations to convert from an Unincorporated Association in England. Previously known as the Guillain-Barre Syndrome Support Group a charity founded in 1985, the new legal identity comes with a new name and positive acronym "gain"

gain formally launched on 3 February 2014, following an EGM where the members voted unanimously in favour. It is a busy and exciting time for those involved with the charity as we are amongst the first charities to convert to CIO status. This puts us in the forefront of reform; the downside is that many of the agencies that we deal with are still trying to work out how to interact with us.

The trustees are confident that we have laid the basis for the future success of the charity. We will not lose sight of our role in providing support to sufferers, their carers and their families. We are developing new approaches to raising awareness and funds, this will help us to support more people suffering as a result of these devastating diseases.

The charity hopes to raise a least a million pounds by 2016, the centenary of Drs Guillain and Barre identifying and naming this disease from their pioneering work with soldiers in the trenches during World War 1.

More information on the charity, and how you can help us "gain a million" can be found on our website www.gaincharity.org.uk
